Your local pharmacy 

Your high street pharmacist offers on the spot, expert advice on a range of illnesses and can give advice about how to use medicines and any questions you may have.

Your high street pharmacist can prescribe medicines for the following conditions, without you needing to see a GP or make an appointment: impetigo (skin infection), infected insect bites, earache, sore throat, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, and shingles. This is called Pharmacy First.

They can also provide free medicine for minor illnesses if you are eligible. Find out more: Self-care medicines scheme.

Help from NHS 111

If you’re worried about a symptom and not sure what help you need, visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111.

NHS 111 will direct you to the best place to get the care you need from your local health team.

 

GP evening and weekend appointments

You can book an evening or weekend appointment at a GP hub in Islington by:

  • contacting your GP practice as usual during opening hours
  • outside of your GP practice opening hours, contact NHS 111

 

Urgent Treatment Centres

The Urgent Treatment Centre at Whittington Hospital provides treatment for minor illnesses, injuries and non-life-threatening conditions which require urgent or immediate attention.

The urgent treatment centre is based within the hospital’s A&E department: Whittington Hospital, Magdala Avenue, London N19 5NF

Support with health costs and the cost of living

To find out if you can get help with health costs such as prescriptions or travel to your hospital appointments visit help with health costs

If you’re struggling with the cost of food, energy and other bills, you are not alone. Help, support and advice is available from Islington Council or on 020 7527 8222.

They can help to identify what benefits and financial support you are entitled to, help you make a claim, and put you in touch with other local services that may be able to help you.
