Ideally located on the ground floor of a large multi-storey development, the state-of the-art facility is fully accessible and provides considerably more space than the former GP practice site at 339-341 West Green Road, N15 3PB.
The new health centre features a large reception and spacious waiting area, plus ten consultation rooms – compared with six rooms previously – as well as an additional treatment room. There is dedicated space for counselling services to support patients with their mental health and wellbeing needs, an area for blood testing and space to host group activities and patient education programmes. The flexible building design also includes additional confidential space set aside for use by clinical staff for online and telephone consultations with patients.
The Green Lanes site will also be used as a hub on behalf of a network of local GP practices to provide appointments with GPs, practice nurses and other health professionals on weekday evenings and at weekends (Monday to Friday 6.30pm-8pm and Saturday 9am-5pm).
West Green Surgery was previously housed in a converted shop-front and residential premises, which had restricted access to upper floors and limited opportunities to extend. This meant that the GP practice team were unable to expand the full range of services they wished to deliver to patients. With a list size of over 19,000 patients, the new facility offers increased capacity for the practice to meet the needs not only of its existing patient population, but also to cater for the future population which is projected to increase substantially as new housing developments attract more people to the area.
Located just half a mile away, or a 10-minute walk from the former surgery location, the Green Lanes site is well served by public transport links, with Turnpike Lane tube station nearby and numerous bus routes stopping close to the GP surgery.
The multi-award winning and ‘outstanding’ Care Quality Commission rated surgery is also an accredited teaching practice offering training and development opportunities for trainee GPs. This forward-thinking practice is employing the latest technology and innovative ways of working to deliver the very best possible patient care.
The extended practice team encompasses a wide range of health care professionals, including practice nurses, community pharmacists and a health and wellbeing coach, who work in an integrated way to support patients’ health needs. The flexibility of the modern and spacious accommodation will further facilitate multi-disciplinary team working as well as enhance the GP practice’s capacity to deliver a comprehensive range of services.
The GP practice team includes three Haringey born GPs who are passionate and committed to delivering high quality primary care services to patients and to improving the health of their local community.
Dr Mahmoud Asgheddi, GP partner, West Green Surgery said: “We would like to thank all our partners for their continued support and for working with us to achieve this impressive new health centre. We had long outgrown our previous building but are now well equipped to serve our current patients as well as those of the growing community in the Green Lanes area. We are looking forward to realising our ambitious plans for enhancing primary care provision for patients.”
Rachel Lissauer, Director of Integration for Haringey, NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board, said: “We are immensely proud that the long-awaited building for the West Green Surgery is now open. This building will be a significant asset for the local community, offering improved facilities for both patients and practice staff alike.
“This represents a key step in our Haringey primary care estates investment programme which aims to achieve delivery of high-quality primary care services by multi-professional teams, from modern, fit for purpose premises.”
