London Secure Data Environment: Using Data to Improve Patient Outcomes
NCL Integrated Care System is working with partners across the capital to set up the London Secure Data Environment (SDE) to join up health and care records.
The London SDE will create a safe environment where we will be able to link GP data with a wide range of national datasets covering acute, community, mental health services and adult social care. Over time we will further enrich this record with data from other organisations to create a single access point to enable population health improvement, direct care projects, and research.
Members of the public have been at the centre of this work to ensure it meets public expectations and builds trust and confidence. You can read more about out work with Londoners, including the OneLondon Citizens’ Advisory Group here.
The London SDE has two components: a London Data Service and a London Analytics Platform.
The London Data Service
The London Data Service securely collects patient information from primary care General Practices and NHS England. It then organises and stores this information ready to be used by other approved applications including Integrated Care Boards (ICB) intelligence systems, the London Care Record and the London Analytics Platform.
The London Analytics Platform
The London Analytics Platform uses data from the London Data Service to support at scale projects across the London. This includes work to:
- Help health and care organisations to plan services.
- Support health and care teams to provide proactive care.
- Help health and care academic teams or industry partners to perform research and development.
NCL will be transitioning from HealtheIntent to the London Secure Data Environment over 2025. This will strengthen our ability to deliver population health improvement, enable collaboration across London and create a shared NHS owned data infrastructure.
Further information is available on the OneLondon website including privacy notices and how OneLondon uses your health and care information.
