Shingles vaccination eligibility changes from 1 September

Based on the recommendation from the JCVI, eligibility for the shingles vaccine has been expanded to younger age groups. It means hundreds of thousands more people will be able to get protected against shingles each year.

From 1 September 2023, the following groups are eligible:

  • those aged 70-79
  • all those aged 50 and over with a weakened immune system
  • those who turn 65 from 1 September 2023. Those already aged 65 to 69 will become eligible for the vaccine when they turn 70.

Eligibility will go down to 60 years old in September 2028.
