About Hoarding Disorder
Hoarding Disorder is a recognised mental health condition, and with approximately 2 to 5% of the population affected the disorder is more common than OCD and Schizophrenia combined. Around 92% of individuals with Hoarding Disorder also have another co-existing mental health condition, and help begins with education and connection. Hoarding is not a choice and it can be helped with compassion, understanding and intervention.
Multi-agency approaches are key to assessing, supporting, and resolving cases where people who demonstrate a tendency to hoard or clutter are identified. If you have concerns about a person who may be hoarding then please seek support and advice from your designated professional for safeguarding adults and from adult social care in the borough where the person is residing.
